Meet the Chefs is a series of culinary workshops run by three chefs, Ashley Nightengale, Jazmine Scott, and Naomi Knox, in partnership with Foundation for Girls. Ash, Jaz, and Namie met while attending The International Culinary Schools at The Art Institute of Charlotte. Coming from different backgrounds they all had one common goal: to use their gifts and talents to help others. Each chef has very different areas of expertise that they intertwine into workshops to teach others the fundamentals of cooking.

The Sun is constantly giving off its energy and light. It is always radiant. The sun doesn’t discriminate to whom or what it gives its warmth to. Be the Sun. Your light is contagious.

Bringing Art to life with Katherine Cobb

Bringing Art to life with Katherine Cobb

Creativity takes courage
— Henri Matisse

Born in East Tennessee, Katherine Cobb's passion for all arts has been evident since childhood when she started sketching, but she didn't start painting until the 1990's, gradually adding acrylics, watercolors, oils, and pastels. Katherine still works part-time as an economist & land planner, after long experience as a corporate executive.  MBA in management/ finance, The Wharton School; BA in economics/ management, NC State University.

Katherine loves teaching art. She volunteers to teach art to at-risk and vulnerable people for the same reason she is passionate about painting: as a release valve, a way to give expression to her feelings. She likes to see the light in their eyes when they discover that anyone can draw. Sketching and painting are ways to get what they see onto paper and canvas, no matter their skill level.

Anyone can draw, they just don’t know it. Sketching and painting are ways to get what you see onto paper and canvas.

Agenda: Introduce art, art appreciation, and art techniques

Class goal: Sketch and paint, with confidence
